How to Make Homemade Orange Marmalade or Jelly for Holiday Gifts

Pour the mixture through the cheesecloth and into a bowl, making sure to press down on the cheesecloth to extract as much juice as possible. Discard the solid pieces of orange.
Return the strained liquid to the pot and add the sugar and lemon juice. Heat the mixture on low, stirring constantly, until the sugar has dissolved.
Increase the heat to medium-high and let the mixture boil, stirring occasionally, until it reaches the gel stage. To test if the mixture has reached the gel stage, dip a metal spoon into the mixture and let it cool slightly. If the mixture forms a gel-like consistency on the spoon, it's ready.
Remove the pot from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes. Skim off any foam that has formed on the surface.
Ladle the hot marmalade or jelly into clean, sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of space at the top. Screw on the lids and process the jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes.
After processing, remove the jars from the water and let them cool to room temperature. Store the jars in a cool, dark place until you're ready to give them as gifts.
